Drift and change control
A workflow can change while its model name stays the same. Tools, prompts, retrieval data, permissions, routing, reviewers, and policy rules all influence behaviour. A baseline must name the versions and operating conditions it describes. STABLE
Make an alert interpretable
Section titled “Make an alert interpretable”| Element | Required question |
|---|---|
| Baseline | Which approved workflow, release, population, and period? |
| Measurement | What signal, instrument, sampling, denominator, and missingness? |
| Threshold | Why does this change require attention? |
| Context | Could traffic mix, workload, or detector changes explain it? |
| Response | Who investigates, pauses, rolls back, or approves an exception? |
| Closure | What evidence establishes that the corrective action worked? |
This is an operational checklist, not a validated actuarial model. STABLE
Fictional case: the support rollout
Section titled “Fictional case: the support rollout”After a retrieval update, escalations rise. Three explanations remain live: the knowledge base introduced bad content; more complex customer cases arrived; or the detector became more sensitive. A rising alert rate alone cannot select among them. Keep comparable release slices, investigate representative examples, and observe whether remediation changes the failure path. STABLE
The same discipline applies to tool-selection drift, newly available actions, changed human review, and missing receipts. A sudden fall in blocks can mean safer activity, a disabled control, or traffic bypassing the measurement point. STABLE
Underwriting use
Section titled “Underwriting use”The first useful use of drift evidence may be an investigation or loss-control review. Eligibility, conditions, limits, pricing changes, cancellation, and claims decisions require insurer authority and the applicable contract and law. A dashboard threshold does not amend a policy or trigger a payout. STABLE
Measure whether a pilot helps reviewers recognise and resolve specified changes. Treat a predicted reduction in losses as a hypothesis until supported by suitable exposure and outcome data. STABLE
Field drill
Section titled “Field drill”Block rate falls after a release while attested action volume also falls. Name two explanations and the extra observation needed to distinguish them.
